In 2018 we purchased the first purebred Speckle Park heifer ever to be offered for sale under the hammer at auction by Mark McKenzie at Maungahina Stud. Mark said it was the best heifer he had ever bred, and buyers attending the sale from around New Zealand and Australia must have agreed, as we paid a record price for a heifer sold in New Zealand.

There was one other yearling heifer which had caught our eye that same day, so we fought hard to purchase her and managed to take her home as well. Both of those heifers have since produced outstanding calves so we will be flushing them for embryos in 2020.

The following year at Maungahina’s 2019 Sale, we purchased another outstanding out-cross heifer which impressed us, again paying the highest price in the sale.

These heifers have joined a select number of other quality females we have bred here at Pine Hill.

All of our heifers are joined with carefully chosen Speckle Park sires from both New Zealand and around the world. They have their first calf naturally before being considered as donors for our embryo programme. This ensures that we select only the very best of our females to flush for embryos.
